Course aims
Creating preconditions for the information specialists required for effective information search skills and strategies for acquiring information for searching the modern electronic resources.
Brief description of the course
Historical context of information searching. Searching in factual, bibliographic and full-text information resources: methods and strategies. Different document types searching. Web search strategies and evaluation of search results. Personal information management tools.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- recognizes the role of information specialists as effective information searchers;
- is familiar with the various search strategies and techniques, and is able to select information sources that correspond to users information needs;
- is able to search information in bibliographic, factual and fulltext databases and other electronic resources;
- is able to search information on the World Wide Web and is able to critically evaluate the information and provide advice on the management of personal information.
