Course aims
To develop systematic knowledge of the information and knowledge society approaches, technologies and their applications. To create preconditions for the development of information specialists who are aware of information and knowledge management policies, systems, and technologies and are able to manage information and knowledge in library and information institutions, and who are able to organize the information and knowledge management and learning at the organizational level.
Brief description of the course
Information and knowledge society concepts, development of information and knowledge society, the factors, events and researchers influencing the development of information and knowldge society, stages of development and characteristic features, approaches. Information overload and its
consequences. Information and digital culture. Digital technologies and social media. Systems and technologies of information creation, collection, processing, distribution and use. Systems and technologies of knowledge acquisition, collection, sharing and implementation. Knowledge-based management processes and systems, knowledge management systems.

Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has a systematic overview and broad knowledge of information and knowledge society approaches, technologies and their applications;
- understands the characteristics of information and digital culture;
- is able to critically analyse different approaches and technologies of information and knowledge society;
- is able to use modern technologies for analysing problems of information science and offer their solutions;
- understands principles of information and knowledge management and possibilities of systems and technologies;
- has an overview of information and knowledge management systems and technologies and their applications and the role of information professional in the process of information and knowledge management;
- is able to analyse and select systems and technologies for the organizational information and knowledge management;
- is able to initiate and organize the process of information and knowledge management with the help of technologies in organization/community.
