Course aims
To develop an understanding of organizational management approaches;
To create preconditions for obtaining knowledge on organisational culture and human resource management;
To support to acquisition of an overview on the performance management, measurement and assessment;
To help the students to recognize the issues of evaluation and assessment of information service quality in an organisation.
Brief description of the course
Organizational culture, values, strategies. Paradigms of management. Change management, the role of leader in the change management process. Human resource management (HRM) and leadership. Personell development: training, inclusion.
Performance management and measurement in information sciences (Van House, McClure, Sumsion, Cullen, Willemse etc). Performance measurement: effectiveness, efficiency, evaluation. Levels of evaluation and assessment (resources, functions, actions, services). Balanced scorecard: internal business processes, external outcome. Service quality (Berry, Parasuraman, Zeithaml, Nitecki). Models and components of service quality. Research and development projects for analysing information service quality StatQUAL+ and LibQUAL+. Benchmarking for quality management and assurance.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- orients in various contemporary management approaches and strategies;
- knows the specific features of management strategies, organizational culture and human resource management;
- understands the theoretical models of performance management and measurement and is able to use them in the process of - analysing and assessing information services;
- is able to use the balanced scorecard for tha analysis of library performance;
- is able to compare library assessment models using benchmarking tools and techniques.
