Course aims
To create preconditions for acquiring knowledge about information monitoring as the organization information and knowledge management process, its objectives and strategies
To support the acquisition of knowledge on monitoring the Web for public and private organizations, about the Web monitoring methods and tools.
Brief description of the course
Information monitoring of the external environment of organizations as information and knowledge management tool. The specificity of public and private sector organizations monitoring. Web monitoring concept and objectives. Web, deep web and social networks as monitoring environments. Manual and automatic monitoring. Monitoring methods. Development of a monitoring system. Permanent, periodical and strategic monitoring. Web monitoring tools: Web-site watcher, the Copernic Tracker, et al.; online services and Infominder Change Notes. Organizations web sites security issues.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- understands the nature and importance of the monitoring information in the organizations’ information and knowledge management;
- knows and distinguishes monitoring objectives in public and private organizations;
- has knowledge of the peculiarities of monitoring in Web environment and about most important monitoring methods;
- has an overview of the technological tools of Web information monitoring
