Course aims
To create opportunities for acquiring knowledge about of the essence, tasks and organization of information services in the digital age; about the information needs and creation of information services to satisfy them in the digital era
Brief description of the course
The formation and evolution of information services. Information services institutions (libraries, information centers). Information needs of target communities (target groups). Typology of information services. Reference and current awareness services. Information service models and levels. Information service behaviour. Information service development process. Services for different user groups. Information service quality assessment. Practical experience in evaluation and use of information sources, reference interviewing and search techniques.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has knowledge on the various forms of information services;
- is able to determine the users' information needs, to conduct reference interviews and interpret a patron's information request;
- is able to select appropriate information resources to satisfy the request;
- is familiar with the methods for assessing the quality of information services.
