Course aims
To lay a foundation for an informed adoption of collaborative strategies as methods for creating effective, engaging, sustainable and responsible socio-technical systems. To provide an empirical understanding of the lifecycle of socio-technical systems addressing the challenges of contemporary governance.
Brief description of the course
The course addresses the lifecycle of systems development and participatory design, addressing topics such as:
- From iterative to sequential system development life-cycle approaches.
- Theoretical and practical exploration of collaborative strategies such as participatory design and co-design.
- Exploration of concepts, projects, and theories related to interplay between different system development lifecycle approaches and a range of collaborative strategies. Experimentation with concepts and prototypes.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has an understanding of the main theoretical considerations underpinning different approaches for collaborative systems design and development;
- is able to make informed decisions about which approaches to prefer at different stages of systems development;
- has practical experience of applying collaborative design approaches for conceptualising and prototyping.
