Course aims
To enable students to use physiological and affective computing tools in various HCI applications.
Brief description of the course
This course is about technologies and applications that detect and measure mental states and react to these states in different ways. The course project will include adapting an affective computing solution to be applied in assigned practical topics.

Topics of the course:
- expressions of emotions, detecting emotions;
- physiological signals;
- physiological correlates of emotions and experience;
- relationships between attention and emotion;
- affective interactions;
- implicit and explicit interactions;
- practical course project: functional prototype of affective computing application.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- defines terminology of physiological and affective computing;
- explains behavioural and physiological expressions of emotions;
- explains relationships between attention and emotion;
- uses physiological signals, emotions and relationships between them in interaction design;
- develops functional prototypes of affective software.
