Course aims
To provide an overview of methods and tools of UI testing. To explain the choices of testing methods based on requirements. To explain the testing procedure, data collection, analysis and interpretation of results.
Brief description of the course
Research question of testing: quantitative vs. qualitative, summative vs formative. Source of test data: expert vs test user. Testing actions: task-driven vs exploration test. Inviting test users: who? how many? Test data: self reports, observations, measurements. Quantitative analysis. Qualitative analysis. Interpreting the results. Reporting the results.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- prepares the UI for testing by choosing appropriate tools and methods;
- methodically proceeds with UI testing by collecting and analysing the test data;
- interprets the results as design recommendations and issues the testing report.
