Course aims
To introduce different possibilities as well as to provide necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills for planning, designing, implementing and managing various learning environments and networks.
Brief description of the course
Virtual learning environments and learning management systems. Open and distributed learning environments. Social media applications as learning environements. Technologies related to learning environments (RSS, information flow, folksonomy, social bookmarking, widgets). Personal learning environments. Learning networks and social networks. e-Portfolio. Identity management and Open ID. Roles of learners and teachers in different environments. Trends and future development of learning environments and networks.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- understands the role of learning environments and networks in the learning process;
- can bring out the differences, advantages and challenges of different learning environments;
- can analyse affordances of different social media applications according to one’s own (others’) learning activities and combine as well as implement them effectively;
- can effectively organise, design and support one’s own and others‘ learning environments;
- understands the changing role of learners and teachers in different environments;
- understands one’s own role in designing and implementing personal and group learning environments.
