Course aims
To introduce different interactive whiteboards and their pedagogical use; to provide knowledge and skills in order to use SMART Notebook or Promethean ActivInspire software.
To introduce different presentation software packages; to provide knowledge and skills in order to create and use presentation technologies effectively in the classroom, to publish one’s presentations online.
Brief description of the course
SMART Board, Promethean ActivBoard, Promethean ActivTable, IWB software for designing study materials (SMART Notebook / Notebook Express või Promethean ActivInspire), best practice examples of activities on the IWB, assessment using interactive technology.
Presentation software (GoogleDocs, Zoho Show, Sliderocket, Prezy, Keynote), designing good presentations and avoiding „Death by PowerPoint“, presentation methods: Takahashi method, Lessig method, Godin method, Monta method. Mistakes to avoid in a presentation. Developing presentation delivery skills and how to involve students in lessons. Recording video presentations, lecture capture technologies (Echo360), active lecturing, CRSs – classroom response systems - clickers, webconferencing applications (Skype, Google Hangout, Facetime, http://vyew.com/s/, http://flashmeeting.e2bn.net/), video projector, interactive projector, document camera / visualiser.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows how to use interactive whiteboards effectively in the classroom;
- can create new resources for the IWB using appropriate software;
- can create and publish well-designed presentations online;
- can apply active lecturing with the use of CRSs in a subject lesson;
- can use different webconferencing applications effectively.
