Course aims
To provide theoretical knowledge (basics of design) and practical skills to create multimedia-based software. The main emphasis is on text and graphics.
To give an overview of the basics of photography, handling a digital camera, processing a file and printmedia.

Brief description of the course
The nature and concept of multimedia. Authoring systems and their classification. The main principles of multimedia creation. Types of media. Use of text, types of fonts. Use of colours, colour space, colour models. Main concepts of computer graphics: raster graphics, vector graphics. Principles of design. Basics of digital photography, digital camera and its functions. Simple photo editing programmes, use of graphics tablets. Creating worksheets with OpenOffice Draw, .pdf creators.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- understands the concept of multimedia;
- knows the principles of design and different multimedia elements (text and graphics);
- can use a digital camera; follows the principles of photo shooting; knows elementary techniques of photo editing;
- can process files and choose an appropriate output for his/her photos;
- can choose multimedia elements appropriate for his/her aims;
- can create well-designed worksheets.
