Course aims
The objective of this course is to create opportunities for students to develop theoretical and factual knowledge about contemporary Hong Kong society, politics, and law. Within the framework of the course, an overview of the structure of contemporary Hong Kong society, the problems present within it, and the unique challenges it faces under the "One Country, Two Systems" principle will be provided. The course aims to foster the development of practical skills that can be applied to the analysis of Hong Kong society within contemporary East Asian contexts.
Brief description of the course
Students will acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to navigate contemporary Hong Kong society and to analyze the socio-political processes taking place there. The seminar will discuss socio-political phenomena and challenges related to Hong Kong's unique post-colonial identity, the implementation of "One Country, Two Systems," and the impact of recent legal changes, including the National Security Law.
