Course aims
To get an overview of the history-writing and to deal with some of the problems of contemporary philosophy of history: history and truth; history and story; history and time; history and memory.
Brief description of the course
The course provides an analytical review of the core questions in contemporary philosophy of history, focussing on the critical philosophy of history and its connections to the practice of historiography. Some authors will be introduced more closely (Hayden White, Carlo Ginzburg, Peter Burke etc) and their texts will be analysed in the seminars.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has knowledge of the main problems and concepts of contemporary critical philosophy of history;
- has ability to analyse historical knowledge and texts in the framework of the development of the discipline of history;
- has knowledge of the specific features nd disiciplinary rules of history writing;
- has knowledge of the ideas of the most influential contemporary philosophers of history
