Course aims
The aim of this course is to give students an opportunity to work in an organisation which needs employees or researchers who are knowledgeable in anthropological methods. Internship provides students with an opportunity to put into practice the skills and knowledge that they have gained throughout different courses in anthropology.
Brief description of the course
During their 5th semester of their curriculum, students are expected to participate in internship, in order to put into practice the knowledge that they have gained from different anthropology courses, including the course about research methods. These skills include making a research plan, choosing the focus and research question of the project, choosing appropriate methods and literature.
Students are expected to participate in ‘Internship’ independently, in an organisation that is chosen either by the student herself/himself or by the department. A student is also expected to be in a regular contact with the lecturer in order to discuss possible issues or problems during the internship.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- is knowledgeable how to use anthropological methods in practical situations;
- has experience of opportunities and limits of particular methods in different situations;
- has empirical knowledge about one specific organisation, its activities, people, problems, practices etc;
- knows how to observe, interview, take notes, gather material and analyse it.
