Course aims
German literary history: main epochs between the middle ages and 21st centuries. Ability to identify and critique essential paradigms and interpret texts within their historical and cultural context.
Brief description of the course
Students will discuss exemplary literary texts from various genres and literary epochs between the middle ages and 21st centuries. Special attention will be given to historical and cultural context and to intertextual relationships. Students will apply various methods of interpretation. The selection of texts will vary from year to year.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
Deeper understanding of history of German literature; primary ability to read text, process and understand its meaning within of historical and cultural context.
