Course aims
To deepen knowledge of the history of the Italian language, linguistic and cultural diversity in Italy; familiarize oneself with the peculiarities of contemporary Italian language and its relationship with society.
Brief description of the course
The course is conducted in seminar format and actively engages the learners. The course covers the history of the Italian language, its variability, and its connection to cultural diversity; contemporary trends in Italian language development and their reflection in language learning materials. Emphasis is placed on the relationship between language and ideology and the language's connection to societal changes.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- possesses knowledge of the variability of the Italian language and an awareness of Italian cultural diversity;
- has an overview of contemporary developments in the Italian language;
- is able to relate their linguistic knowledge to a broader cultural context and analyze linguistic phenomena;
- has improved their proficiency in the Italian language, both in speaking and writing;
- has developed teamwork skills through pair and group work.
