Course aims
To understand intertextuality and transmedia narratives; comprehend how words are translated into audiovisual images and books into films; get acquainted with the general history of Italian literature adaptations to the screen; understand how a film revitalizes a literary work by reinterpreting it in a changed time-space and societal context.
Brief description of the course
The course is conducted in seminar format and actively engages the learners. Throughout the course, students will become familiar with theories of adaptation to the screen and explore successful adaptations of Italian literature; they will engage in an in-depth analysis of one adaptation, covering both narratological and audiovisual aspects, as well as the transformation of the text's meaning depending on historical context and medium. The course also addresses the potential use of transmedia narratives in language learning to develop all four language skills – listening, reading comprehension, speaking, and writing.
