Give an overview of the evolution of the French society from Napoleon the Ist to our days

Brief description of the course

1. Heritage of the Revolution
2. Napoleon the Ist
3. Restauration; monarchy and the heritage of the Revolution
4. Second Empire
5. Institutions of different Republics
6. The Church and the State
7. Main lines of the French foreign politics; colonialism and decolonisation
8. France in wars
9. Evolution of the French society after the World War II

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- has knowledge of the more important aspects of French history, society and culture;
- has capacity to see the role of France in Europe and on global level;
- has capacity to analyse the problems of contemporary French society.
