Course aims

To give an overview of Catalan culture, history and language.

Brief description of the course

The course consists of lectures that provide an introduction to the main events and problems of Catalan history from its earliest periods to our times. It also offers a quick overview of Catalan cultural traditions, the most important writers, artists, philosophers and political figures. The questions of national identity and autonomy will be also treated during the course.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
-Systematical knowledge on the culture and history of the Catalan-speaking territory;
-A capability to evaluate the sociopolitical situation of the Catalan language from a historical perspective.
