Course aims
To teach the principles of writing scholarly texts.
Brief description of the course
Peculiarities of academic English. Peculiarities of writing scholarly texts, including MA theses. Development of students’ analytical and critical skills. Basics of text editing. Systems of reference (MLA, APA, etc.). Avoiding plagiarism.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
Students are able to approach a scholarly text critically and analytically.
Development of quoting, paraphrasing, summarising, data and support collection skills.
Ability to assess various types of sources.
Academic writing skills enhancement.
