Course aims
The aim of the course is to introduce students to current research on language acquisition and development and to explain factors which contribute to second language learning.
Brief description of the course
The course provides an overview of a variety of approaches which seek to explain the process of second language learning and development. The topics covered include the debate on innateness hypothesis, the effect of age on language learning, first language interference on second language learning, interlanguage, language development, motivation, aptitude, social dimensions in second language learning.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
On a successful completion of the course students will understand the basic issues of second language learning and basic terminology of the field, will be familiar with the findings in the field and theories of second language learning, will be able to read reaserch papers on second language learning meaningfully.
