Course aims
Major subject (Estonian as a major). To provide a theoretical overview of the grammatical structure of Finnish and to compare it with the grammatical structure of Estonian. To create assumptions on the basis of historical grammar. To learn to talk on simple topics.
Brief description of the course
Simple and difficult features in Finnish grammar for the Estonian learner. Different features in the pronunciation of Finnish and Estonian. An overview of the grammatical structure of Finnish. Finite and infinite verb forms. Finite categories: voice, mood, number, tense, affirmative and negative forms. Infinite forms: infinitives and participles. Suffixes and syntactic functions of the case forms. Category of number. Plural. Degrees of comparison. Possessivity. Main inflectional noun types. Numerals. Declination of numbers.
