Course aims
To introduce patterns and language proficiency assessment methods of child and adult (second) language development.
Brief description of the course
Course gives an overview of (second) language acquisition problems, principles and various (second) language acquisition and language proficiency assessment theories.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
The student
1. has an overview of the main notions and issues of (second) language acquisition and language proficiency assessment, theoretical schools, development trends, and topical problems;
2. has essential knowledge about (second) language acquisition and bilingualism and are able to apply the acquired knowledge in their professional activities;
3. has a critical understanding of the problems of (second) language acquisition and language proficiency assessment, can analyse them and evaluate different solutions;
4. knows the most important theories and is thoroughly familiar with the main research trends of (second) language acquisition and language proficiency assessment.
