Course aims
To give students systematic and up-to-date knowledge about Estonian literature of the period 1960–2000. To develop the ability to work independently with literary and literary historical texts of different periods. To provide students with practical experience how to analyze literary and literary historical texts. To prepare students for more specific lecture courses in literary history as well as for more specific seminars.
Brief description of the course
The main problems of Estonian literature in 1960–2000: periodization; the problems of socialist realism; realism, modernism, postmodernism. Estonian literature in the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s: literary life, poetry, prose, drama, essays.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has acquired systematic knowledge of Estonian literature of the period, are familiar with the most important authors, trends and literary works; are able to relate them to literary canon and context.
