Course aims
A main subject for the Film Editing speciality, during which the student acquires the substantive and technical skills for film editing. The course provides students with theoretical knowledge of the editing process of a full-length feature film and the practical experience of editing a large-scale project.
Brief description of the course
The course consists of lectures, seminars, practical exercises and joint analyses in the classroom. During the seminars, past and contemporary films significant in terms of editing are analysed. The course deepens the editing students’ editing-specific film analysis skills. During the course, each student writes a theoretical analysis of a chosen film, using analysis methods and approaches used in the course of the seminar. By the end of the course, each student edits an integral part of the source material of a full-length feature film.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has ability to analyse the dramatic structure and editing of a film;
- has acquisition of various methods of theoretical analysis;
- has ability to write an independent theoretical critical film analysis based on the dramatic structure and editing of a film;
- has ability to participate in group work;
- has ability to create a complete and original film narrative;
- has ability to edit systematically and purposefullygrand projects.
