Course aims
- To expose the student to the fundamentals of inheritance and family law through formal lecture followed by reading and analysis of actual cases;
- to give basic knowledge regarding property law in the European Union system and the skills necessary to analyse current issues of property law;
- to teach about the European institutions and rules of property law and develop the skills necessary to apply those rules in solving concrete cases in connection to other areas of private law.
Brief description of the course
The course covers the general principles and the main terms of family law and property law and the relevant European institutions. During the course the students will develop the skills necessary to solve cases by applying the different rules and general principles of family law and property law, together with the other areas of civil law.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- describes the basic definitions and principles;
- understands the norm elements that are related to the regulation of family relationships, inheritance of property and tax consequences of inheritance in the European Union;
- understands the norm elements that are related to rights of children and persons under custody;
- can analyze a case in terms of inheritance and family law;
- knows the principles of analyzing a case and preparing and presenting an oral argument in a legal context;
- can apply his knowledge of inheritance and family law in practice;
- has an experience of composing an analytical statement and knows the principles of carrying out an objective and critical analysis;
- knows the positioning of property law in the system of civil law in the European Union;
- understands the institutes and rules of property law and is able to apply them in solving concrete cases in interaction with the other areas of civil law;
- can analyse the current issues and cases of property law.
