Course aims
¤ to introduce students to the system of private law of Republic of Estonia and to the basic institutions of civil law and their interrelationships;
¤ to introduce students to the basic principles of civil procedure;
¤ develop the ability to understand the linkages between the different branches of private law and use these arguments in the interpretation of this legislation, and co-solving.

Brief description of the course
The lectures and seminars will deal with following issues: the system of private law and the scope of civil law in accordance with the new valid general part of the civil law system. The course includes introduction into private law, general concepts of civil law, system and sources of civil law, civil law relationship, persons, passive and active legal capacity, transactions (general principles of conclusion of contracts and bases for the creation of contractual obligations), representation, general principles of protection of civil rights, calculation of terms and limitation period for an action.

Cases and written assignments will be solved during the course.

Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
After a successful completion of the course, a student:
¤ will know the system of private law;
¤ will know and appreciate the basic institutions of civil law and their interrelationships;
¤ will be able to interpret and properly apply norms of civil law;
¤ will understand the principles of civil procedure.
