Course aims
The course aims to enable students to understand the Scandinavian visual heritage in its historical context, from 8th to 16th century.
Brief description of the course
The course provides an overview of the Scandinavian visual culture in its religious and political context from the Viking Age to the Beginning of the Reformation. Special attention will be paid to differences between the various regions (Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland).
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
The student is able to recognize and describe the Scandinavian 8th-16th century art, distinguish between artistic styles, see the similarities and differences between the Scandinavian countries,and the links between art, religion and politics.
