Course aims
Thorough overview of the development of the idea of independent state, of the existence of Estonian Republic from 1917 to 1944.
Brief description of the course
The attempts on independence of the Estonians in the 20th century. The birth of Estonian Republic, its recognition de facto and de jure.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
After the course the student will able to enumerate the main lines of political, cultural and economic development and problems of gaining independence, keeping an independent state going and having it taken away. The student is able to delineate historical events and processes of the history of Estonia in the period of 1914 – 1944 in a wider context of world history. Is able to associate causes and consequences in the history of the period. Is able to summarize the accomplishments in the development of the Republic of Estonia in 1918 – 1940. Can verbalize his/her knowledge and analytical statements in the essay.
