- analyses and interprets cultural phenomena and processes holistically and creatively, situating them within historical, social, environmental and intercultural contexts and substantiating their interpretations
- formulates a research or analytical problem in the study of culture, designs an appropriate research process to address it, collects and analyses research material using appropriate methods, and interprets the findings
- critically reflects on current cultural problems and tensions and on their own analytical choices, assessing their ethical, social and environmental implications with due regard for cultural diversity and sustainability
- explains current topics in culture and substantiates their positions on matters related to the field, orally, in writing and through digital tools, in Estonian and in a foreign language relevant to the field, adapting their communication style to the target audience and cultural context

which includes passing all compulsory courses and passing the Bachelor’s examination. Students who have not graduated from upper secondary schools where Estonian is the language of instruction, or who have graduated from schools where Estonian is only partly the language of instruction, are required to have Estonian language proficiency at C1 level.

- explains the key concepts, show more...
theoretical approaches, methods and developments in cultural theory, semiotics, cultural history, popular culture studies and cultural analysis, and compares and draws connections between approaches across these fields;
- critically reads and interprets texts in cultural theory, cultural history and cultural analysis, identifying their main arguments and assumptions and situating them in their historical, cultural and scholarly contexts;
- selects concepts, theoretical perspectives and methods appropriate to the research material and analytical problem, and applies them critically and creatively in analysing different types of cultural phenomena and processes;
- analyses and compares different cultural environments and cultural phenomena manifested in different media and forms of expression within their historical, social and cultural contexts, explaining the formation of cultural meanings, identities and values, as well as intercultural connections and transfers;
- develops reasoned interpretations grounded in the research material, relates them to broader questions in cultural theory, and reflects on their analytical premises, choices and position, as well as on the possibilities and limitations of the approaches employed, taking into account the principles of cultural diversity and ethical responsibility;
- produces and presents clear, logically structured cultural analyses both orally and in writing, using appropriate disciplinary terminology, distinguishing between description, interpretation and evaluation, and discussing alternative interpretations. Compulsory courses:
