Course aims

Students are equipped with the knowledge, skills and values to teach sexuality and HIV/AIDS prevention topics.

Brief description of the course

Concept and development of sexuality. Background philosophy of sexuality education. Facts about sexuality. Sexual minorities. Basic knowledge of universal prevention in sexual education. Factors: self-esteem, values, critical life skills (making decisions), using values for decision making, preventing conflicts and solving problems. Healthy relationship. Psycho-physiological aspects of development of teenage age. Prevention of HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases. Safety, family planning. Pregnancy. Family relationships and basic needs. Family education. Counselling, emergency for youth.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- is able to explain the role of self-esteem, values, critical life skills and beliefs in sexual behaviour;
- explains the relationship between human basic needs and healthy communication;
- demonstrates an understanding of the theories, values and models of sexuality education and HIV/AIDS prevention.
