Course aims
Provide an overview of the nature of youth work and the different approaches, basic concepts, history and development. Introduce the activity areas of youth work, its functions and outputs. To introduce the role of youth work in educational and community work, value education, etc. Provide an overview of youth work as an interdisciplinary field and to establish connections with other areas.
Brief description of the course
Approaches to youth and youth work. The concept and meaning of youth work. Historical development of youth work. Basic concepts and principles of youth work. Different areas of activity, courses of action and functions of youth work. Education and value education in youth work. Entrepreneurship in youth work. Non-formal learning in youth work. Interdisciplinarity. Didactics in youth work. A youth worker's professional ethics. Source documents of youth work. Youth participation and involvement.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- understands the nature of youth work, and its general and specific objectives;
- knows youth work- related regulations and source documents, and can find the necessary information from them;
- understands the youth work as a means of educational and community work, prioritizing non-formal learning;
- orientates in youth policies, different areas and outputs;
- has an overview of the history of youth work and the various approaches;
- knows the main methods and work forms of youth work.
