Course aims

To develop student skills in correcting and editing texts. To provide an overview and show the difference between proof-reading and editing. To develop skills for correcting and editing texts independently.

Brief description of the course

The concept of proof-reading, its tasks, possibilities, methods and limitations. Proof-reading marks, their system and groups. Editing types: difference between oral and written editing. Editing and proof-reading levels. Text analysis and assessment from the editors point of view. Editing means and methods. Editors key methods in constructing language, facts, texts and in using logic. Number, table and quotation editing. Editing marks. Usage of dictionaries and reference books during the process of editing. Work with an author.
