Course aims

Core subject of the MA curriculum in sociology. Social life is treated as an environmental phenomenon, which gives students the ability to see and analyse the interrelationships between processes in the environment and society.

Brief description of the course

Relationship of man with the natural, artificial and social environment. The degree of dependence on the environment, environmental indeterminacy and information, essential and invariant qualities, the environment as a message and language, organisation and excess, additional occupation, subjectiveness and subjectivity of the environment. Values, environmental attitudes and environment directed behaviour. Development of environmental attitudes and sustainable ways of life. Marginalisation of environmental problems by conventional minds. Empirical environmental sociology in Estonia, fields of research and results. Research in the field of environmental attitudes and environmental behaviour.
