Course aims
The course gives an overview of sociological research in Estonia. It introduces the research questions of various research fields, the research methods used to study these questions, existing databases and interpretation of the results. The classes are conducted by representative/researcher of each respective research group.
Brief description of the course
During the course, following research topics will be introduced and discussed: Estonian Statistical Office; National and international statistical data bases; Life style research; Market research and opinion polls; Education research; Future research; Family research; Civic society research; Urban research; Crime and deviance research; For visited classes, students have to fill in ‘class diaries’. As the final work of the course, students have to write an essay. Students are also expected to make assignments: hands-on use of national and international databases; environmental and sustainability statistics; social statistics.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has overview of sociological research carried out in Estonia;
- has ability to find needed data from public data bases.
