Introduce bioinformatics and its applications. Introduce online bioinformatics databases. Give a basic knowledge of main techniques and methods used in bioinformatics and the ability to conduct a simple analysis. Create algorithms to work with sequencing data and visualise results by using Python and R programming languages.
Brief description of the course
Introduction to bioinformatics. Overview of sequencing technologies. Online databases and their applications. Analysis of genome/exome and RNA-Seq. Proteomics in bioinformatics. Using bioinformatics tools. Principles of Python and R programming languages. Writing simple algorithms for data analysis.
Reading compulsory materials.
Learning outcomes in the course
Knowledge about the bioinformatics discipline and its history. Knowledge about the main online bioinformatics databases and their applications. Knowledge about the main methods and tools used in bioinformatics. Ability to write simple algorithms in Python to work with data. Ability to conduct simple statistical analysis and visualise results by using R.
