Brief description of the course
- Introduction to bioinformatics - past and present.
- Overview of sequencing technologies (Sanger, HTS, LRS)
- Online databases and their applications (NCBI, GenBank, UniProt, OMIM, GTEx, gnomAD, UCSC)
- Analysis of genome/exome.
- Transcriptomics and RNA-Seq data analysis
- Using bioinformatics tools via Galaxy platform (FastQC, BWA, SAMtools, etc.)
Principles of R programming language and creating plots
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has knowledge about the bioinformatics discipline and its history;
- has knowledge about the main online bioinformatics databases and their applications;
- has knowledge about the main methods and tools used in bioinformatics to analyse DNA and RNA data;
- has ability to use R to import data, analyse and visualise results.
