Course aims

Purpose of the subject is comprehension of everyday life processes from chemical standpoints.

Brief description of the course

The principles of inorganic and organic chemistry. Products of domestic- and applied chemistry. Domestic chemicals. Cosmetics and hygiene products. Caring for humans skin, hair and teeth. Perspiration. Odourchemistry. Cleaning chemicals. Detergents. Chemical dry-cleaning. Disinfectants.Leather dressing. Natural and artificial materials. Treatment of textiles (bleaching, dyeing). Glass, ceramics, polymers, plastics, textiles.Technology of plastics. Metal and alloys. Corrosion. Glues and paints and their properties. Domestic vermin.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- can cognition of the chemical aspect of the substances and materials are used in everyday life;
- has skills and knowledge about using of everyday chemicals.
