Course aims

To deal with the state and quality of the environment and the methods of chemical and instrumental analysis of the environmental objects. Practical applications and skills on that field are developed.

Brief description of the course

The subject belongs to the environmental as well as analytical chemistry and deal with the different methods of analysis of the environmental objects. Collection, conservation and analysis of natural, potable and waste waters; collection and analysis of air samples, dry and wet precipitates (rain, snow, dust). Soil sampling, conservation and analysis. Analysis of plant and animal objects. Analysis of toxic substances in human organism. Data-processing as a tool for generalization of the analytical results and presentation to specialists of environmental services. Training: practical skills of the analysis of environmental objects. Exercises concerning data-processing of analytical results.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- is able to be aware of different environmental analytical problems, to collect samples of different types and in different physical states and to prepare them for chemical analysis;
-is able to choose the correct method of analysis for the sample to be analyzed;
- has improved the ability to use Excel and the ability to write raports
