Course aims
Major. Integrated approach to the problems relating to the environment and the development of the Baltic Region.
Brief description of the course
The course is carried out within the frames of the Baltic University Programme. The Programme is co-ordinated by Uppsala University (Sweden). The theory of sustainable development. Societies and human ecology. Energy and energy politics. Material flows and geochemical circulations. Sustainable agriculture and forestry, possibilities for feeding in a sustainable way. Sustainable industry and production. Sustainable transport. Sustainable houses and regional infrastructure. Sustainable economy. The foundations of sustainable development, ethics and law. Policy of sustainable development. Course components: booklets, video-tapes in English and supplementary material on the Internet. Introductory lectures and seminars in Estonian. Only those students who have written a report on a selected topic are allowed to take the exam.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- is capable of comparing ways of management from the standpoint of sustainable development;
- knows positive examples concerning the application of sustainable activities in communities.
