Course aims
To develop prerequisites for acquiring the command of Spanish on B2 (Vantage) level in order to pass DELE-Nivel Medio (Diploma Instituto Cervantes) exam.
Brief description of the course
The course is designed to target the students whose command of Spanish equals to B1.2 level (Threshold) according to ELP (the European language Portfolio).
Development of integrated listening, speaking, reading and writing skills by means of contemporary Spanish language and culture.
In-depth language acquisition. Emphasis on independent creative tasks. Tasks and exercises that stimulate creativity. Translating speciality texts with the help of dictionary.
Characteristics of Spanish speaking world: different music styles, cinema etc. Peculiarities of Spanish in Latin American countries. Usage of communicative methods in work groups.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- can follow the essentials of lectures and understand articles which use complex ideas and language;
- can synthesise information from a number of sources;
- can construct a chain of reasoned argument;
- can write an academic article;
- can understand standard spoken language, live or broadcast, on both familiar and unfamiliar topics: most TV news, documentaries, live interviews, the majority of films, short stories and popular novels;
- can make academic presentations and express him/herself clearly;
- can speculate about causes, consequences and hypothetical situations;
- can understand the regional differences in Spanish;
- can explain and use grammar rules;
- can analyse the syntactic and grammar aspects of the sentences;
- can reflect on his/her language learning.
