Brief description of the course

The course is intended for students who have attained an A1 level of proficiency in Spanish. Achieving the learning outcomes requires active participation and conscious planning of one's language learning. Practice of the vocabulary and grammar introduced during contact sessions is carried out primarily through independent study. In class, exercises are corrected collaboratively, and acquired knowledge is applied to develop oral expression and produce written texts without the use of artificial intelligence. The course consolidates and expands upon A1-level topics, including the description of people, activities, events, experiences, preferences, and places. Additional topics include variation in the Spanish language; culture and customs in Spanish-speaking countries; adverbs of quantity, manner, time, and place in different contexts; the expression of ongoing actions; the conjugation of verbs in the present and past indicative tenses; the expression of future actions and plans; and the imperative mood. Students learn to convey practical information, such as giving directions in a city or ordering in a restaurant, and to mediate cultural topics as well as narrative and simple real-life texts by summarising, paraphrasing, and presenting information. The course provides the foundation for attaining A2-level proficiency in Spanish, as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), across all language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. It also creates opportunities to apply acquired knowledge in both written and oral communication and develops the ability to set objectives, plan, and reflect on one's own language learning.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- describes regional differences in Spanish pronunciation;
- conveys simple real-life and narrative texts related to everyday life and cultural topics;
- applies pronunciation rules, acquired vocabulary, and grammar in communication;
- uses basic vocabulary and grammar in text production without the use of artificial intelligence;
- plans and analyses their own language learning.
