Course aims
The purpose of this course is to give an overview of the history of video art, performance art, sound art and media art based on important artists' works. The students will get practical experiences through creating collective performances that integrate different arts, human activity domains and technology.
Brief description of the course
The course focuses on performance as central concept that joints different arts and technology. Introduction of different forms and examples by international and Estonian artists. Lectures on video art, media art, sound art and media based music, interactive (sound) installations, performance art. Guest lecture on video streaming technology application in art context. Visiting and reflecting (written review) a professional performance event. Generating ideas, finding suitable forms and working solutions for them. Inventing different forms of cooperation, experimenting and creating the integral whole. Practical group work, that will be presented as joint evening performance in the end of the course. This is followed by critical analysis, peer-feedback and discussion. Process-based learning requires attending the classes.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- is familiar with different contemporary integrative art practices, knows well-known performance, media and video artists and has gained skills in analyzing their work;
- has participated in the process of creating a co-creative performative artwork, that is presented publicly.
