Course aims
Introducing and practically applying music and creativity relations and basic principles of musical composition.
Brief description of the course
Introducing of basic elements of music (rhythm, meter, pitch, timbe, harmony etc.) and form principles (repetition, variant, difference, contrast, disassociation) in accordance to their applicability in composition. Also introduction of different phases and stages of creativity as well as chosen compositional techniques. During seminars analysis of compositions of professional composers as well as the emerging creations of the students. Independent work: applying of the five form principles in exercises as well as creation of a complete work (5–7 minutes). Hence the students are asked to refelct their own creative process and become conscious of the different creative phases and stages of that process. In the seminars the students introduce their work in progress from the first idea to three consecutive creative intermediary phases. After each intermediary phase the student sends the teacher a 5–10 sentence reflection (indicating also the creative phase reached in that particular moment).
The course consists of 30% theoretical, 70% independently practically realized/performed parts.

Additional information
1) Participating in composition seminars is compulsory at least 3x to introduce the work in progress and 1x to comment the work of the commilitones. Reflection of the own work in progress is required to be presented verbally during the seminar and to be sent after the seminar to the teacher (5–10 sentences).
2) Fill in a questionnaire concerning creative phases and stages before the examination.
