Course aims
Create an overview of the film as a medium and the history of the dance film through various examples (Lumieres, Loie Fuller, Isadora Duncan, Maya Deren, Anna Theresa de Keersmaeker, etc.).

Introduce the basics of film theory and approach the dance composition based on camera angles in relation to dance movement approach. Such as: view point, camera placement, angles, composition, framing etc.

Create opportunities for mastering and implementing dance dramaturgy: an idea, concept, scenario, storyboard, location, post-production.
Brief description of the course
The course focuses on acquiring theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Working with concepts such as movement, composition, footage, angles and light. During the process, different roles are experienced and tested by working as a producer, director, dancer, choreographer and operator.
One minut films will be produced during the seminars. Process-based learning requires participation in auditory work (min. 85%).
Independent work includes the preparation of choreographic material, pre-production, filming and the post-production (editing, etc.). Also the viewing and reflecting of explanatory study materials, reading of the articles and compulsory literature sent by the lecturer, and the attendance of the relevant events and the keeping of a study journal.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- is familiar with the history of dance film, masters the basics of film language and is able to apply them to his / her dance compositions;
- knows the basic concepts of film media and is able to approach the dance composition through the camera;
- is able to plan and perform film shooting and masters the basics of post-production.
