Course aims

To develop competences of didactics of mathematics necessary for working a class teachers. To provide an overview of the theoretical bases of didactics of mathematics, to improve students`knowledge and skills in order to teach mathematics in the first and second stages of basic school.

Brief description of the course

Structure of the didactics of mathematics. Acquiring the primary concepts of mathematics (quantity, connection, number etc). Main activities in elementary class mathematics: ordering, grouping etc. Content and planning the course of mathematics, teaching methods and materials. Lesson of mathematics and the role of play in teaching mathematics. Teaching numbers to 10, 20, 100, 1000 and adding, deducting, multiplying and dividing within the learned range of numbers. Developing the skills of calculating by heart. Natural numbers up to one million and the algorithms of written adding, deducting, multiplying and dividing. Fractions in elementary classes. Principles of teaching geometry. Solving problem tasks, activating students in maths lessons. Implementing various work methods. Individual work: going through literature, individual group works, compiling lesson plans and study portfolio.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- teadmised matemaatikadidaktika teoreetilistest alustest
- teadmised matemaatika sisust ja õpetamise metoodikast
- oskused matemaatikatundi planeerida, konspekti koostada ning tehtut praktikas realiseerida.
