Course aims
Support forming a theoretical background for the principles of teaching reading. Create a basis for the acquisition of practical instructions and particular methods of development of pupils’ writing and reading skills. Direct to making sense what, why, when and how to teach.
The objective is the student's activeness in connecting theory to practice and making choices/conclusions.
Brief description of the course
The concept of reading, essence of reading. The principles of teaching reading. The main strategies of teaching reading. The concept of writing. The objectives of writing and types of text. The methods of teaching writing, different approaches to writing. Teaching based on the process of writing, i.e. process writing. Teaching grammar openly and in a hidden form. Written communicative activities in the lesson. Types of text and language topics treated on the first and second level of basic school, teaching those according to the principles of the new curriculum. Usage of newspapers and other means of mass media in teaching mother tongue.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has a personal conviction about working approach to teaching writing and reading;
- is able to compose writing exercises with scenario from a text, communication situation or topic;
- can use creativity to stimulate pupils’ interest in reading and reading activeness;
- is familiar with verbal communication subskills, are able to associate grammar with literary subject matter proceeding from the principle of integral language.
