Course aims
Subject in didactics, focusing on the application of aims and methods of information technology in an educational process. The objective of the course is to develop competence in information technology – creation of learning materials in a computer and putting them on the Internet, learning and teaching in a Web-based environment, development of multimedia presentations and Web-pages etc.
Brief description of the course
Basic concepts in educational technology. Computers in Estonian schools – history and present status. IT in educational policy. IT in learning. An overview of studies on educational technology carried out in Estonia. Basic school graduate’s competence in ICT and media. Methods for using computers and the Internet in subjects. Integrated learning projects based on IT.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- is able to compile a subject-oriented and self-development-promoting digital e-portfolio, which includes self-introduction, links from databases and study material repositories;
- is able to compile study materials and work instructions together with interactive tests;
- knows subject-oriented, ICT-based learning projects containing educational values, in which active learning methods have been applied;
- follows good practices in the use of online information (Creative Commons) and intellectual property;
- is aware of the dangers associated with the use of ICT for one's own and the student's health, social and mental development;
- is able to critically evaluate information / sources and avoid threats that may be encountered by a learner in the cyber world;
- is able to organize group work, is an active member of the learning community and reflects what has been learned in an open communication environment.
