Course aims
To create opportunities for acquiring an overview of possibilities for the individualisation of teaching in pedagogical activities. To create opportunities for acquiring basic knowledge, techniques and strategies for adapting teaching to the needs of students with special needs.
Brief description of the course
Teaching children with special educational needs: principles and opportunities. The concept of teaching differentiation, links with theories of learning. Opportunities for individualising teaching. Curricula and learning materials for students with special needs. Different learning and teaching strategies for supporting students with special needs. Problems related to organising studies and behavioural guidance. Teaching self-control and self-regulation to students with special needs. Practical work: observation and analysis of learning activities targeted at students with special educational needs.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- is familiar with theoretical principles and methods of special education;
- is familiar with the differences in organising the teaching of children with special needs, and opportunities for adapting the learning environment;
- knows the theoretical principles and methods of special education;
- orientates in the existing study material, taking into account the content of the subject curricula and the specifics of the students;
- knows the main bases of special didactics and special pedagogical techniques.
