Brief description of the course
Introduction into the main concepts. The terms and concepts of records management. General characteristics of paper-based and electronic records management. The concepts of records and archive management, documentation activities, document, record and archival record, document’s life-cycle. Document system, records, the processes in records and archives management, creation and receipt of documents, registration, classification, retention periods, access, tracking the usage and movement, disposal of records, technology, the level of responsibility in records and archives management.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows the concepts and principles of records management and archival work;
- understands the principles of records systems and knows the basics of records management in an organisation;
- knows the records management processes, archival services and control over the archival activities;
- is able to compile, classify records, establish retention periods, compile the rules for records management in an organisation, prepare the transfer of documents to archives.
