Course aims
The aim of the course is to give the understanding of the privacy and security for the students of educational technology or information technology management - what are the challenges for users, policies, norms and solutions. For better understanding of the fields, overview of the development, research activities and best practices of information society. Part of the course will focus on the pupils and the solutions, trainings and activities related with them.
Brief description of the course
Short description:
Overview of the history of IT and Internet. Information society and new media;
Cyber security strategies in Estonia and abroad;
Privacy, ethics, psychology and norms in digital safety (piracy, plagiarism, data- and personal protection);
Censorship of the network. IT and professionalism;
IT risks and ergonomics. IT security audit for organizations and for homes;
Net-protection and -dangers. Specialities of net communication. Net crimes;
Hackers: history and techno-culture. Net communities;
Challenges and dangers of the digital safety for kids and ordinary people.

Course consists of the lectures, seminars and preparation and presentation of independent work. When possible, during the course activities meetings with external experts of the cyber security will be organized.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows the main aspects and trends of the security and privacy in computing world;
- knows the main threats for the children and ordinary users and knows the ways of avoiding the threats;
- has the overview of the main species of the malware and popular net crimes;
- knows how to create guidelines in the field of digital safety for own organization.
